Our Montréal-based trauma fellowship program offers training in trauma and acute care surgery in a dynamic and innovative environment. This fellowship program is open to Canadian and international medical professionals.

Advanced trauma training
In partnership with Université de Montréal, we offer a 12- to 24-month training program leading to recognition as a leader in trauma surgery. You will be taught by trauma surgeons based on leading-edge clinical practices.
Throughout your training, you will develop the knowledge, skills, and technical expertise required to perform trauma and acute care surgery at an expert level.
You will also be affiliated with a teaching hospital while conducting research as a leader in your field.
Exposure to a high volume of clinical cases
Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur-de-Montréal is a tertiary (level-one) trauma centre that treats a wide variety of traumas and surgical emergencies: 67,000 visits to Emergency and 3,000 trauma cases annually.
Located at the junction of major highways, the hospital is the ideal place to treat accident victims quickly. It is also the designated hospital for the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix.
Joining our fellowship program means you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of complex clinical cases and respond to diverse, demanding situations.
How does the fellowship program work?
We offer a clinical rotation to develop your skills in trauma and acute care. This rich, varied training experience includes activities such as:

Medical expertise
Act as trauma team leader
Learn and coordinate the comprehensive management of multiple-trauma patients (resuscitation, stabilization, surgery, clinical follow-up in the ICU)
Participate in patient follow-up at the outpatient trauma clinicCommunication
Establish good relationships with peers and other health professionals
Communicate clearly, appropriately, and concisely (presentations, multidisciplinary meetings, conferences, etc.)

The fellowship takes place at Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur-de-Montréal, level-one trauma center hospital for the management of multiple-trauma patients:
- The only hospital in western Québec specialized in spinal cord injuries;
- The only hospital specialized in treating ventilator-dependent quadriplegic patients for the whole province of Québec;
- Referral centre for western Québec for moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injuries (TBI);
- Renowned trauma program centered on best practices;
